One of the most glorious companies in the history of eyewear. The myth Ray-Ban was born in the early 1920s, thanks to the request of Lieutenant General John MacCready, who, at the end of an ocean crossing that caused him eye damage, asked the American company Bausch & Lomb, founded in 1853, to create a pair of highly protective, panoramic, and elegant glasses for all aviators.

After a year of design, the patent for the first aviator goggles was filed on May 7, 1937. Ray-Ban Anti-glare was born, a drop-design model created to benefit high-altitude aviators. During World War II Bausch & Lomb with its Ray-Bans became the sole and official supplier of sunglasses for the American army.

Later the “Ray-Ban Anti-glare” was renamed “Ray-Ban Aviator”, a name that still identifies this model today. Over the years, numerous models of enormous success have followed; from Wayfarer to Caravan, up to the “Wings” shield series. In 1999 Ray-Ban was acquired by the Luxottica group which continues to produce, even today, the models that made history.
