Cutler and Gross was founded in 1969 in London by opticians Graham Cutler and Tony Gross, united by a strong friendship that blended precision with personality
Cutler initially designed the optical frames, while Gross led the creation of sunglasses—a collaboration that defined the brand’s distinctive duality. Their first store opened in Knightsbridge in 1971, and success followed quickly: artists, rockstars, writers, and members of the royal family were drawn to their frames, which seamlessly combined craftsmanship with a contemporary style. They went on to create iconic designs, inspiring collections that celebrate individuality and innovation.
From the very beginning, craftsmanship has been at the heart of Cutler and Gross. This craftsmanship requires skills passed down through generations and meticulous attention to detail: weeks of refinement, months of development, and years of perfecting. Today, after more than half a century, the philosophy of Cutler and Gross remains unchanged. Every model is carefully handcrafted by expert artisans in Italy and Japan and is sold through the finest opticians around the world.
